Common Anki import problems
What the findings mean
“Missing media” after import
A note or template references a filename that was not bundled, or the media map points to an archive entry that is not there.
Blank fronts or template errors
A card side can be empty, a field may have been renamed, or the card record may point to a deleted template position.
Notes skipped during import
Empty first fields and incompatible note-type changes can make imports harder to match. Existing-collection conflicts still need Anki itself to evaluate.
Cards work on desktop but not mobile
Custom JavaScript, add-on filters, remote assets, or client-specific template behavior can reduce portability.

Before you import
Is my APKG uploaded anywhere?
No. The checker opens the ZIP container and its Anki collection database inside your browser. The file is not sent to VidToAnki or another server.
Can the checker fix an APKG file?
It reports what is inside and what may fail, but it does not modify the package. Fix the original notes, templates, or media in Anki, then export a fresh APKG.
Why does Anki say media is missing after import?
A template or note field may reference a filename that was not included in the package, or the package media map may point to an archive entry that is absent. The checker tests both cases.
Does this replace importing and previewing cards in Anki?
No. It catches structural problems before import. Anki desktop is still the final authority for rendering, scheduling choices, note-type conflicts with your collection, and card previews.
