VIDTOANKI FREE LANGUAGE-LEARNING ANKI TEMPLATE
Version 1.0 — July 2026

WHAT IS INCLUDED
- language-learning-starter-deck.txt: UTF-8, tab-separated starter data with five original example notes.
- front-template.html: the front card template.
- back-template.html: the back card template.
- styling.css: responsive card styling.

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED
This is not an APKG file and does not include scheduling history, an Anki collection, add-ons, JavaScript, audio, images, or copyrighted lesson material. The Audio and Image fields in the five examples are intentionally empty.

FIELDS (CREATE THEM IN THIS EXACT ORDER)
1. Target sentence — the sentence you want to understand and recall.
2. Meaning — a concise translation or learner-friendly meaning.
3. Context — the situation that makes the sentence understandable.
4. Source — where the sentence came from; include timestamps or permission notes when useful.
5. Audio — optional Anki sound markup such as [sound:clip.mp3].
6. Image — optional pasted or imported image.
7. Notes — grammar, usage, register, or a short memory cue.

INSTALL THE NOTE TYPE (ANKI DESKTOP)
1. Open Tools > Manage Note Types, choose Add, clone Basic, and name it “Language Learning — Context First”.
2. Choose Fields. Rename the first two fields and add the others so they match the field list above exactly.
3. Choose Cards. Replace Front Template, Back Template, and Styling with the contents of the three matching files in this folder.
4. Save, then use Add to preview one note before importing the examples.

IMPORT THE FIVE EXAMPLE NOTES
1. In Anki desktop, choose File > Import and select language-learning-starter-deck.txt.
2. Choose the “Language Learning — Context First” note type and your preferred deck.
3. Confirm the field mapping shown in the importer. The header tells current Anki versions that the separator is a tab and the fields may contain HTML.
4. Import, then use Browse to inspect the five notes and Cards to preview both sides.
5. Delete the examples or replace them with material you are allowed to study.

ADDING MEDIA
Drag an audio file into the Audio field or an image into the Image field while editing a note. Anki copies imported media into its collection. Do not type a filename unless that file is actually in your Anki media collection.

SAFETY AND COMPATIBILITY
Read template files before pasting them. These templates contain ordinary Anki field replacements and HTML only; there is no JavaScript. Anki desktop is the final authority for import and rendering. Back up your collection before bulk imports.
The import headers require Anki 2.1.54 or newer. On an older version, choose the tab separator and HTML option manually. Official text import documentation: https://docs.ankiweb.net/importing/text-files.html
